The Llama Whips Back: Enshittification & Entropy

Remember the nineteen hundreds?

It really does whip the llama's ass.

I recently fired up an old copy of Winamp v2.91. It is a perfect piece of software. It opens in 30 milliseconds. It plays music. It has a visualizer that melts your brain. And most importantly: it lives in a single folder.

You could copy that folder to a USB drive, plug it into another computer, and it just worked. No installers. No registries. No "always-on DRM." No monthly subscription to access the MP3s you already bought. (you did buy them right? right?;)

It was sovereign.

The Corruption of Money

Somewhere along the way, we let the "Dashboard for Insanity" take over. As outlined in The Last Economy, we started optimizing for metrics that don't matter: GDP, engagement, and retention—instead of utility.

We traded protocols for platforms. We traded files for streams. We traded ownership for access.

This is the "Enshittification" lifecycle:

1. Surplus: Platforms are good to users to grow.
2. Extraction: Platforms abuse users to please business customers.
3. Abuse: Platforms abuse business customers to please shareholders.
4. Death: The value turns to zero.

Harbingers of the Storm

We are now seeing the "Harbingers of the Storm" described by ii.inc. The system is experiencing "Critical Slowing Down." Recovery from shocks takes longer. The internet feels fragile because it is built on a foundation of vapor—ad-tech bubbles and surveillance capitalism.

We are living Lie #1: "Scarcity is Fundamental". In a digital world of infinite abundance, these platforms are artificially creating scarcity just to charge us rent.

The Nucleation of the New

It is time to return to the logic of the single folder.

Our future must be aligned with Intelligent Economics. We need to build systems that respect human dignity and alignment, not just extraction. We need "The Nucleation of the New"—small, sovereign cells of sanity that operate outside the "Network Prison."

That is why I am building again. Not a SaaS. Not a platform. Just a folder.
